BEIRUT – ATHENS

Dual Airbridge Memorial Event – A Tribute to 70 Years of Aviation History

On August 31, 2024, IVAO Lebanon and IVAO Greece came together to host a memorable event celebrating nearly 70 years of aviation history between Beirut and Athens. This dual airbridge event recreated the historic first flights that connected Beirut (OLBA) and Athens (originally LGAT) in 1955, led by Middle East Airlines and Olympic Airways.

Pilots honored this legacy by flying under the iconic “Cedar Jet” and “Olympic” callsigns, enhancing the nostalgic atmosphere of the event. This occasion was particularly significant as it marked the first non-HQ event planned between Lebanon and another division. The Greek community responded positively, participating enthusiastically and reinforcing the strong connection between the two regions.

Pilots navigated a variety of modern jets, between Beirut International Airport (OLBA) and Athens International Airport (LGAV), making this tribute to aviation history a truly special occasion.
